June is always a busy month and this year is no exception. Coming up students will be particpating in a golf tournament, going to Track and Field Zones in St. Albert and visiting the Palisades for the grade 7 field trip. Also coming up are Provincial Achievement Tests for grade 6 students the week of June 17th to 21st. Click on the link below to access the year end exam schedule for grade 7 and 8 students.

 

2013 YEAR END EXAM SCHEDULE

Students in the one act play "The Seussification of a Midsummer Night's Dream" traveled to Spruce Grove for the Zone II West One Act Festival April 25th to 27th. A total of 16 plays were performed, 10 of them being at the junior level. Pine Grove came home with two awards; the trophy for "Best Visual" show and  an "Achievement in Acting" award won by Maddy Kinzie. Maddy portrayed "Puck" in the play. Pine Grove students were a credit to our school both on stage and off. Special thanks to DJ Brappin (AKA Keaton Tabbert) who DJayed the festival gala on Saturday night and did an excellent job!

Tickets for this year's One Act Dessert Theatre are on sale. Tickets are $10 each, which includes dessert, and are available at both he Pine Grove and Parkland office. Performances are at the Red Brick on Monday, April 22nd and Tuesday April 23rd and the line up for each night is as follows:

Also, registration can now be done on-line for the University of Alberta's "DiscoveryE" summer camps to be held at Pine Grove August 6th to 9th. The camp will provide a hands-on introduction to science and engineering. Please click on the link below to access the registration page.

Once again Pine Grove has a very successful basketball season which saw many students take part in one of six different teams. The B Boys where winners of the GYAC banner this year and came fourth at zones. The B Girls played well at both GYAC and zones. The boys and girls C teams boht took bronze at GYAC. As well, Pine Grove had several students who participated on the A teams along with students in grade 9 from Parkland Composite High School. Congratulations to all!

Pine Grove is proud of all the students who particpated in GYAC Basketball Finals in Hinton March 1st and 2nd. Both the Boys "A" and "B" teams took the gold, the Girls "A" team took silver and Girls "B" team was proud to beat Jasper for the first time this season. Both Boys and Girls "C" teams took bronze. Well done basketball players!

On Tuesday, February 26th there will be a parent meeting about the upcoming Cool Camp program. The program is for grade 8 students and focuses on decision making in relationships. Students who attended the program last year found it very valuable in part because it is facilitated by high students. If you want to find out more please join us at 7:00pm in the library.

On Friday, February 15th report cards will be sent home with students. These reports will be followed up with Parent Teacher Interviews in the school atrium on Wednesday, February 20th from 5:00pm to 7:30pm. If you are unable to attend interveiws but would like to talk with your child's teacher please call the office so arrangements can be made. Hope to see you all there!

February 4th was the beginning of this year's DARE Program. Members of the Edson RCMP Detachment will be working with each grade 6 class to help them understand the importance of good decision making when it comes to tobacco, alcohol and drugs. We welcome this important program to Pine Grove!

On Wednesday, January 30th, students and parents who purchased a ticket for Hockey Hooky will be off to Edmonton to watch the Oil Kings play. Once again, Pine Grove students will be on the ice at the beginning of the game to sing "O Canada". Have a great trip everyone!
